Best Steaks in the Region
Steaks are an entirely satisfying tangible indulgence; the familiar sound of a
juicy rare slab sizzling on a hot steel plate, the waft of aromatic smells, the
light dusting of freshly cracked pepper and a picture perfect of lightly charred
brown on the outside and glossy moist pink on the inside. Drizzled with a sauce
of your choice, the combination makes for a sweet symphony of flavours exploding
on your taste buds. Indeed, the succulent beauty of a grilled steak is one of
the greatest pleasures in life.
In my quest for the best steaks in Singapore, I've tried just about all the steakhouses
I could think of - the famed Morton's of Chicago, the Raffles Hotel Long Bar Steakhouse,
Outback's in a down-under style and Stuart Anderson's. If you ever found yourself
wondering wheather their steaks are as good as it gets, guess what? Your're wrong.
A GOOD STEAK
What makes a good steak? A good steak is juicy, tender, loaded with flavour and
has a minimum amount of fat. What makes a perfect steak? The consistency of the
chef's skill - how well he is able to marinade the meat, retain its flavour and
the doneness of the steak.
THE GOOD
I had heard about Morton's and was anticipating the day where I get to feast on
their famed steaks. nice ambience set in a distinguished New York style decor.
I was quite impressed by the way they tossed teh salad but the doneness of my
"medium rare" tenderloin steak was too raw and khad to be re-cooked.
Well somehow the succulent flavour is lost. However, it was too pricey, appearing
more as a business-type restaurant. All in all, it was a nice dinner but I would
have expected more for my dollar considering their well-known name.
Located at a quaint little corner at Pasir Panjang Village, Hooha Cafe has everything
a great steakhouse should. The service is gracious and attentive. The ambience,
cozy laid back alfresco amidst beautiful painted murals of what resenbled a rainforest.
The verdict? A juicy, tender and flavour piece of heaven smothered in a creamy
black pepper sauce. Definitely all good. The cost for a perfect steak?
A steal at $32.90.
